Pursuant to ORS § 192.324, I request access to records created, received, or maintained by Professor, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Oregon, relating to research, publications, communications, or other documentation involving EarnIn, Activehours, Inc., EarnIn’s “Cash Out” product, and Earned Wage Access (“EWA”). Attached is a copy of this request.
Specifically, I request the following records from January 1, 2023, to present:
• Communications in any format, including but not limited to emails, attachments, messaging platforms (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, or similar systems), memoranda, agreements, reports, drafts, and correspondence, between Professor and representatives of EarnIn regarding EarnIn, EarnIn’s Cash Out product, and/or earned wage access, EWA.
• Records relating to his papers titled “The Impacts of Earned Wage Access: How Giving Workers More Control Over Pay Timing Can Increase Income and Boost Financial Stability” and “The Economics of Earned Wage Access: How Giving Workers More Control Over Pay Timing Can Boost Financial Stability, Productivity, and Well-Being” including drafts, research notes, reports, memoranda, and communications.
• Any contracts, memoranda of understanding, agreements, or disclosures relating to data access, funding, consulting, institutional approvals or other relationships between the University of Oregon, Professor, and EarnIn or Activehours, Inc.
• Any communications with third parties concerning the papers titled “The Impacts of Earned Wage Access: How Giving Workers More Control Over Pay Timing Can Increase Income and Boost Financial Stability” and “The Economics of Earned Wage Access: How Giving Workers More Control Over Pay Timing Can Boost Financial Stability, Productivity, and Well-Being” including EarnIn, public relations firms, research collaborators, or others.
• Calendar records, meeting invitations, calendar entries, and associated metadata (such as invitees, attendees, organizers, dates, times, locations, and descriptions) for meetings involving Professor and representatives of EarnIn, Activehours, Inc., or any third parties concerning EarnIn, EarnIn’s Cash Out product, and/or earned wage access, EWA.
• Any conflict-of-interest disclosures, outside activity reports, or financial disclosure statements submitted by Professor to the University of Oregon relating to EarnIn, Activehours, Inc., EarnIn’s Cash Out product, or earned wage access research.
For purposes of identifying responsive records, relevant search terms may include, but are not limited to: “EarnIn,” “Activehours,” “EarnIn Cash Out,” “Cash Out,” “Earned Wage Access,” “EWA,” “paycheck advance,” “wage advance,” “tip,” “EarnIn research,” “EarnIn data,” “data sharing agreement,” “data use agreement,” “consulting,” “consulting agreement,” “conflict of interest,” and “partner.”
This request also includes responsive records maintained on personal email accounts, personal devices, or other non-university systems if those records relate to university business concerning the topics described above.
