Pursuant to state, federal and university public records law and rules, The New York Times (“The Times”) and I request a copy of any and all documents commonly known as “diversity statements” submitted by candidates for faculty hiring and candidates for faculty promotion over the past two years, 2018 and 2019, to the present. These may take the form of “personal statements” that describe the applicant’s contributions to issues of equity, inclusion and cultural understanding.
